It's ok. Lots of information about the history of GWR but there's hardly anything interactive to do. I could see young children getting excited about seeing the trains but there's nothing more exciting than actually seeing a steamy in action. Shame the trains will never see action again but nice to see them saved from the scrap. It was interesting to be able to walk under a train and see some of the inner workings.

First of all, very good price for this big museum. I spent there 3 hours but I was reading like nearly everything. A lot of history about making trains in Swindon and trains in general. Mostly SHOCKING was the fact that trains were broad gauge before on a part of the rail line. Few trains to look at and a bit of exhibits for kids to play. Not many though. It's not kids centered and happy for that myself. They have a bit of a recreated train station too. And a small signal box with like an interactive game. Very educational into the train history. Highly recommended, absolutely nothing to complain about, highly satisfied.

Would have been 5 stars but cafe was appalling. No proper food after 3 when museum doesn't shut until 5. With 1¾ houurs to closing we were shown a cabinet with ONE sandwich and TWO paninis in it. Even teacakes were not available. No interest shown by staff. Ruined what had been an excellent visit to a superb museum. Lots of history and exhibits with a good number of enthusiastic helpers to explain things. Do visit but don't bother with the cafe.

Excellent museum, we visited with our children on a home-education visit. We did the WW2 bunker experience which was very engagingly described by a member of the museum staff, accompanied by some genuine artifacts from the 1940s. I also particularly enjoyed seeing the real life King George V steam locomotive, the very engine I had on my childhood trainset. Well worth a visit. Parking is the parking for the shopping centre.

Excellent day out for adults and younger. Plenty of steam trains and related exhibits provide plenty to do and see. However, if you're visiting by car read the parking page on their website as they don't have a car park - I parked in the nearby designer outlet one and it was very reasonably priced.

STEAM in Swindon is an excellent museum made up of static displays, informational videos, and interactive activities. It is a great museum whether you are interested in steam engines or are just looking for something to do. Amazing displays of the old Swindon works and a replica GWR platform are two well presented features of the museum. Boasting a large collection of Great Western locomotives, the museum allows you to walk underneath 4073 Caerphilly Castle and look inside the cab of 6000 King George V. Overall, an excellent museum with lots to look at and do, and the average person would likely spend 2-3 hours here. P.S for steam enthusiasts that want something a little extra... look next door in the designer outlet and you can catch a glimpse at 7821 Ditcheat Manor, courtesy of the West Somerset Railway.

STEAM is an informative and engaging museums. With static displays, childrens activities, footplate views, and informative videos there is something here to interest people of all ages. While focused around the construction of steam trains and the history or GWR and Swindon works, the displays and information are not too technically challenging and easy to digest for someone who has been dragged there by a train enthusiast!!! Showcasing many prominent GWR locomotives, North Star, City of Truro, King George V, Caerphilly Castle and more! This museum is a real treasure trove of information and is an important part of preserving our steam heritage.
